Linda Mayes Pope of San Diego, California, ended her life's journey on October 26, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Greenaway Mayes and Dorothy Robbins Mayes, and her brother, John Greenaway Mayes II. She is survived by her beloved husband of forty one years, Jack W. Pope; her two sons, Charles W. Pope, and James S. Pope and wife, Amanda; three sisters, Anne S. Mayes, Susan C. Mayes, and Betty M. Hecht; a niece, Margaret Myrick Wittig, and a nephew, Joseph W. Hecht. Linda was a native of Virginia and moved to San Diego in 1972 where she led a life that focused on the love, nurturing, and support of others. She was an endearing wife, mother and sister. She was an outstanding educator and served on the faculty of the Francis Parker School for 24 years where she provided innovative and compelling education experiences for her students. She was a dedicated caregiver to her brother, John, for 25 years, and on his behalf, was an active volunteer in the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) and instrumental in the success of San Diego Special Olympics events over the years. There will be a memorial service at the El Camino Memorial- Pacific Beach Chapel, located at 4710 Cass St. San Diego, CA 92109, on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 2:00PM. In Linda's memory, donations may be sent to the Mission Valley YMCA, Francis Parker School, Sharp Hospice, or a charity of choice. Linda's family would like to extend its sincere gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to all those who supported her throughout her life and throughout her final days.
