Tribute & Message From The Family

John P. Walsh
May 21, 1928 – September 6, 2012

Juno Beach, FL – John P. Walsh (Jack) age 84, passed away after a long fight against the ravages of Parkinson Disease.

A true pioneer in Financial Planning, Jack was the Founder & Chairman of Money Concepts International, and one of the most significant contributors to the profession.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 21, 1928, the first of five children born to the late Denis P. and Theresa Walsh, immigrants from Ireland who became American citizens.

Jack was a natural salesman from the start. When in the 1930's the diseases of childhood quarantined Jack to the back yard, he sold his brothers the idea that cardboard boxes were airplanes. In Oklahoma City, he convinced his younger brother that the long street car rides to and from school were trips to exotic lands. Jack began his business career with a wagon. There was money to be made pulling heavy grocery bags home for lady shoppers. Next came door to door sales peddling the Saturday Evening Post and Ladies Home Journal magazines. Taking advantage of his business acumen, he trained his first ever franchisees, his brothers, to take over the wagon and the magazines.

In 1942 Jack's parents and their five children moved to Detroit where Jack attended Jesuit High School and became an Eagle Scout. After graduating high school in 1945, Jack joined the U.S. Army and served in the Occupation of Japan. A few years later, following Jack's example, his brothers both joined the U.S Army during the Korean War. Back stateside, Jack attended the University of Detroit.

Jack began his adult career in sales. In 1959 he joined Franklin Life Insurance Company; he broke all sales records, and was named General Agent of the Year in his first year. He was later brought into the home office as the youngest Vice President in company history. In 1969, Jack joined American Bankers Life as Executive Vice president, and was elected President in 1973. During his tenure American Bankers Life experienced their best ever growth. Recognizing the increasing need for personal financial planning Jack had a vision of independently owned and operated financial planning centers based on a franchise model.

That vision became Money Concepts International which today has grown to over 700 offices worldwide. In 2007 he was awarded the Loren Dunton Memorial Award, the industry's highest achievement.

Jack was equally productive at home as he was in business. Jack and his wife Betty brought forth seven children. He was able to fulfill his youthful wanderlust of exotic places by taking his family on dozens of adventurous vacation excursions. Jack's greatest passion was his family and helping his associates succeed.

Jack is survived by his former wife, Betty Walsh, his daughters, Kara Walsh, Kathleen Walsh, Therese Walsh, and Susan Walsh-Caban, his sons, Denis Walsh, Patrick Walsh, and Jim Walsh, and 6 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M., Saturday, September 8th, and from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M, Sunday, September 9th, at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center Street, Jupiter, FL. Sundays visitation will be a time for a sharing of special memories by family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 10 A.M., Monday, September 10th, at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 13591 Prosperity Farms Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach. For directions and online condolences please visit www.taylorandmodeen.com

Condolence & Memory Journal

I would like to offer my condolences to the family of Jack.
I only today learned of his passing and it saddened me greatly. He was a true "gentleman" and great company.I regret I was not at his obsequies but I was just not aware of his passing.
I spent many happy hours in his company when he first came to Ireland to set up Money Concepts, and indeed after I retired and came to live in Florida in the winter months. As always he was a font of good advice and information.
GO DTUGA DIA TROCAIRE AR A AINM.
MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON HIS SOUL.
An old friend.

It was only last evening that I heard of the death of Jack Walsh, a man who inspired those who believed in the philosophy of hard work, commitment and integrity. He was a pillar of all that was best in our industry. He was most certainly a people person, he encouraged those whom he believed and believed in him. Ireland was very important to him and he shared that feeling of pride in the land of his forefathers with all of us on his visits to Ireland.
He has left a legacy of honesty, integrity and belief in our industry for all of us to share. Ard dheis De do raibh a anam (may his soul be at the right of God)

I have had the pleasure of working with Jack Walsh for the past nine years and during much of that time, we often spoke daily about the firm, the economy and current events. I greatly enjoyed our monthly meetings as I had the opportunity to analyze the business with an industry expert. More important though, Jack was a terrific family man. I always admired his values, priorities, and the way he treated others. I feel very honored to work and be associated with such a successful firm and fine family.

I have been out of town since 9/5/12 and only just learned of Jack's passing.
My favorite memory of Jack was his comment about 'all of those people out there running around with his money in their pockets and that it was his job to make the transfer'. I have quoted it many times.
My sincerest condolences to his family and the Money Concepts family.

I met Mr. Walsh only once in my life, however, my meeting him was preceded by many conversations with people who had known him for years. They spoke marvels of him and always conveyed a very high esteem of him. Such comments I can say were confirmed not only in my meeting him but also by the nature and culture of his legacy at Money Concepts. I can only hope to be one half the man he was and be loved by so many. May God bless Mr. Walsh and the Walsh Family.

Jack was the first person who greeted me at my first Conference in Jupiter Beach back in 1998. I had no idea who he was until he went on stage afterwards. That first meeting left an impression on me, but as it turned out, it was demonstrative of what sort of man he was... kind, humble, and full of integrity.

Our prayers go out to Denis, Terri, Susan, Jim, and all of Jack's family.

God bless.

Mr. Walsh is a considerable inspiration to us. In my days at American General which were many removed from Mr. Walsh, he was so well spoken of and widely respected--truly a legend in their eyes. And then to move to Money Concepts, a successful company and vision he founded--we knew he was truly a special man. Such an inspiration--thank you Jack! Our prayers to his family, home office staff and friends.

It is with a sad heart that I write this tribute to Jack Walsh. I am a completely different person today due to the knowledge and mentoring provided to me over the past 25 years by such a GREAT man. My prayers go out to Kara, Kathleen, Denis, Patrick, Terri, Susan & Jim as well as Betty, Alice, Ray, J.P., Kallie, Michael, David, Daniel & Gabriela.

Our two families have become one due to the kindness and love of your father. He instilled in all of us the strength, leadership skills and knowledge needed to keep his dream (Money Concepts) alive. Together we can make a difference in the world, one person at a time.

The loss of my own father 2 years ago (also on the first Thursday of September) showed me that if you are honest, have faith, work hard and hold family first…only good blessings will come your way. Without the compassion & support of Denis & Alice during our family’s grieving, we would not have been able to go on. Mr. Walsh…YOU built that with your teachings and examples. You should be proud of how strong a leader you have created and I see you in Denis more and more each day. Rest assured that your entire family will make you proud each and every day.

To all of my extended Money Concepts Family…We all lost a family member, but it is our duty to carry the torch from this point forward. What would Jack do? Place clients first, keep your family close and always do the right thing. If we do this together we WILL change the world!!

Jack saw things more clearly than anyone I ever met. Not just the logical, black and white, he even went beyond all the shades of grey to see in colors I didn't even know existed. In fact, they may have never even existed if it wasn't for him. His true gift though, was not just seeing in this light but to share his vision with others so that they too can see the wonders that others miss.

I will miss Jack but will never forget him as he will live on forever in the legacy of his family and associates. My prayers go out to the Walsh family that the celebration of Jack's life will dry the tears of their grief and that the wonders he brought to their souls will help fill the emptiness they feel in their hearts.

I feel confident that I speak for many in expressing gratitude for the influence he has had on my life. I am a number cruncher...problem solver...a woman of few words. Jack gave us the words...the presentations...and WOW they were powerful.

Mr. Walsh was one of those unique people who had a commanding presence but the kind of sweet, humble spirit that made you feel comfortable even if you barely knew him. He will be missed by all of us who had the pleasure of knowing him, but his legacy continues in the many people whose lives he enriched. May God Bless and Comfort you.

Our prayers and thoughts are for the Walsh family and those of Money Concepts family at this time. I met Jack in 2005 when I was recruited by Jim Moss. I remember having lunch with Jack and how everyone seemed to admire him. I had been with a major firm and was amazed at how his presence was even at our lunch. I will never forget some things he said to me that day.
Certain people are in our lives for a reason. That is god's plan. I am so thankful that I was able to meet and know him. My father passed in 2007 and I remember getting a note from Denis. Dad's teach their son's (and daughters) how to show respect. That is one of the most important things he did beside all the great business things. Typing this gives me a lump in my throat that brings back loving memories. I know that everyone will understand what I mean by that comment.
My glass is raised to Mr. Jack Walsh for a job well done. He has raised a fine family with respect and also built a firm I am proud to be associated with.
Rest in Peace 'Dad".

"Mr. Jack" has been a major inspiration in my life. After sharing my story with him at a young age, he believed in me even before I did. He told me one time "you are going to do big things in this business". I have played that message over and over in my head a thousand times over the last sixteen years. Whenver times get tough, I continually ask myself "what would Mr. Jack say if I shared my problem with him?". He was a great leader and a great person. My heart and prayers go out to his wonderful family. He will be missed by multitudes of those that he inspired.

Mr. Walsh was an amazing man. I have had the privilege of working for his company for 6 years. Over the years he would speak to us at meetings and company get-togethers. I enjoyed every precious moment of the stories he told us as well as the generosity he and his family have shown me over the years. Mr. Walsh will be missed but never forgotten. I will remember him and the memories will drive me to fulfill my potential at work, and also, in life.

Thank you, Mr. Walsh, for touching my life and giving me the opportunity to be a part of yours, if only as a humble employee. I will be forever grateful.

I will never forget the first time I met jack. It was in his office inn Old Port Cove. I went there to discuss other business and joining Money Concepts was the last thing on my mind. It too him all of five minutes to recruit me. Yes, it was that short because it did not take long to see his integrity, passion for the business and concern for others. I really love him and miss him but those who know him well know that he is living in every one he toutched. Those of us who know him always think every time they see an opportunity how would Jack act under the same circumstances... He toutched so many, helped so many and left his print on all the lucky ones among us. He is finally resting in peace and without pain. Jack! We would rather celebrate your life and follow the many lights of your guidance than mourn your death. You will always be in our hearts and minds.
We love you

Jack was an amazing man!

Jack was a kind hearted soul that truly believed his mission in life was to help people live better lives. He did that not only by touching those employees and advisors that worked for Money Concepts and treating them with caring, respect and kindness, but by offering his systems to help tens of thousands of Money Concepts clients around the globe live more comfotably involving thier financial security.

He has been a God send to many as I have heard the stories and lived the reality of his powerful ability to create success in people. He gave me an opportunity to change my life in 1998 and it has blessed me with a wonderful education and career. Becoming part of the family of Money Concepts was the best decision I ever made in my life. I truly feel that I have lost a family member.

I will cherish my relationship with Jack Walsh and Money Concepts for a life time and my heart felt condolences bleed for the immediate family. My life has been drastically changed because of Jack Walsh and I will never forget!

Godspeed Jack Walsh, as the end is just the beginning of the true realization of the beautiful effect you left here on this earth!

Jack and the entire Walsh family has touched the lives of many people, and literally done so around the world. Thank you to Jack and his family for providing opportunities for me that would have begun years ago and for someone he wouldn't know.
My Dad recently passed away, so I know what the family must be going through, so I express a heart-felt-God-comfort-you blessing upon each one of you.
God Bless!

Too many good ones to mention! Jack was such a leader and mentor to many. His suffering was too long for a man such as he, but he was one of the stongest, most purposeful people I shall ever know.
